The biggest headline in Uganda’s 2022 politics has been the issue of torture. A number of National Unity Platform supporters have been paraded before media on grounds that they were allegedly tortured by the security operatives in Uganda. Among the most popular names that identified with state torture in 2022 include Kakwenze who fled to exile for better treatment after undergoing both psychological and physical torture linked to the first son and the commander of Land forces General Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

Another important name that has featured in the 2022 torture stories was the Nup Kasese-based mobilizer who was accused of working for the rebel and terror group known as ADF.

At the peak of these torture stories, the opposition members of parliament boycotted parliamentary sitting and also set out to collect signatures that would see them censure the minister of security Jim Muhwezi. Even though the main highlight is this boycott is torture; the opposition members of parliament and also boycotting on grounds of the government abusing several other constitutional human rights in Uganda.

Today; the leader of opposition Mathias Mpuuga came out with a list of 81 members of parliament that have so far signed in favor of the censure of the security minister Jim Muhwezi. Important to note; the parliament of Uganda is made up of 529 members of parliament. The leader of the opposition has so far acquired 15% of the whole parliament of Uganda.
