The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued an update on Ebola in Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and France. Unfortunately, instead of giving a full report on the number of people infected, the number of people who are still sick, and those who have been discharged, a narrative has been put forward claiming that Uganda has 20 confirmed cases of Ebola. Even though that is a cumulative fact, it does not represent anything close to the Ebola situation in Uganda
CDC has reported nothing about the Ebola recoveries in Uganda, which is the very reason why people were forcing their way into Uganda to get treatment. Currently, Uganda has only two Ebola cases. There were two who died of Ebola in May, and sixteen have recovered successfully and been discharged. It is very biased reporting to state the cumulative figures as though they are the current situation.
The biased reporting never shares when the cases in Kampala were a public outbreak or merely hospitalized and quarantined cases. The current state of Uganda in regard to Ebola is only 2 cases and they are all under medication attention. The 20 cases are cumulative. It is the total from the last two months.
Another important detail about the Uganda cases that is often not highly reported is majority of the cases were relatives from the same family. It was not a general outbreak from strangers but people from the same family seeking health care in Uganda. Besides the American travel restrictions and what other countries have followed in the same spirit, life in Uganda is moving on normally. No Ebola certificate is required to enter Uganda.
However on an important note, the border of Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo remains closed. Should you wish to visit Congo, you might have to consider an international flight.
