The Karuma Bridge; a major gateway into the West Nile districts has been closed again for further renovation. According to the Uganda Roads Authority; though they had opened up the bridge to the general public in December, they had not installed expansion joints citing that they were not available in the country and their importation had also taken some time.
Though the further renovations had been intended to kick start early; the festive season and the return of students made the Uganda roads Authority to reconsider their renovation timeline in order to accommodate the heavy traffic during these seasons. The current works are expected to take up to three weeks.
If the Uganda road authority remains with in the stipulated timeline; the bridge will be open before the Easter season. However, if there be any delays in their works, it means the bridge will still be closed during the Easter season which will likely cause a strain on the Murchison falls national park route.
