Karuma Bridge is set to reopen on December 20th, 2024, after a three-month closure. The Uganda National Roads Authority closed the bridge in September for major renovation after a major crack had been noticed in the bridge. It was one of the bridges that had never undergone renovation since colonial times.
During the renovation, passengers have been using the Murchison Falls route. The bridge has opened in the right time for Christmas. Many people often leave Kampala to travel back to their villages for Christmas. Though some people still prefer passing through Murchison falls national park, Karuma is the shortest route for those going to Gulu
