The World Athletics Continental Tour is an annual series of field athletic competitions and elite track. The competitions are recognized by the World Athletics federation.
Athletics are not popular in Uganda until there are major international wins. Since this is very common in Uganda, it is often after an international success that people pick interest in the athletes.
Jacob Kiplimo who has been on the race track for the last 5 years has secured his place among the few Ugandans who have risen for Gold in international competitions. On September 8th, 2020 Kiplomo won the Continental tour Gold for 5000m race.
Unlike Cheptegei who won the Gold hand down, Jacob Kiplimo had to wrestle and rumble with the Ethiopian Barega who never gave up on the race till they crossed the final line. Kiplimo was able to finish at 12:48.63 while Barega followed at 12:49.08.
