Speke Resort Munyonyo’s buildings at the staff entrance gutted fire on Friday afternoon. According to the hotel proprietor Mr, Sudhir Ruparelia; the fire was allegedly caused by a contractor who was working on the building extension

Though Mr. Sudhir claims that the fire that burnt the grass-thatched extension was minor; there were a few injuries reported. Regardless, Speke resort Munyonyo remains open for business. No scheduled meetings or conferences will be canceled. Those who booked their accommodation at the hotel will still be served at the same level of service Speke Resort is known for.

Speke Resort Munyonyo is one of the landmark hotels in Uganda that officially opened in 2007 courtesy of the commonwealth heads of government meeting that was held in Uganda. The hotel is run on a basis of a public-private partnership and thus co-owned with the government of Uganda.
