Former Arsenal and Real Madrid midfielder Mesut Ozil has declared his retirement from international football at the age of 34 years. The German international was among the special players that featured in the team that humiliated Brazil 7:1 in the 2014 world cup.
He started his football carried in 1995 at Westfalia 04 Gelsenkirchen where he played until 1998. In 1998, he joined Teutonia Schalke-Nord where he stayed until 1999. In the year 1999, he joined Falke Gelsenkirchen where he still stayed until 2000.
Between 2000 and 2005, he played for Rot-Weiss Essen before joining Schalke O4 in 2005. In 2006 he started his senior football career at Schalke 04 playing a total of 30 matches.
In 2008, Mesut Ozil joined Werder Bremen where he made 71 appearances, scoring 13 goals in total. In 2010, he left Werder Bremen for Real Madrid where he made his mark with 105 appearances in a span of two years.
In 2013, Mesut Ozil signed for Arsenal in the UK where he made a total of 184 appearances, netting 33 goals. In 2021, Mesut Ozil fell out with Arsenal’s coach Mikel Arteta which forced the coach to drop him from Arsenal’s team.
Since then has played for two teams Fenerbahce and Istanbul Basakshir in Turkey. He netted 8 in 32 matches at Fenerbahce before joining Basakshir where he played four games without converting a goal.
