Kazinga channel is one of the major tourist attractions in Queen Elizabeth National Park. The channel connects Lake Edward and Lake Gorge stretching 32km. Kazinga channel harbors a variety of attractions like birds like blue napped mouse bird, little bee- eater, grey capped warbler, yellow backed weaver, pin tailed whydah, slender billed weaver, grey headed, mammals like crocodiles, Hippos, Monitor Lizards, elephants, buffaloes among others.

Animals are found lingering at the shores of Kazinga channel drinking water and grazing. The boat offers amazing platform to take photos and enjoy the views of the amazing tourist attraction. The channel is fed by streams flowing from the spectacular Rwenzori Mountains. The outflow from Lake Gorge flows through this Kazinga Channel and drains west into the adjacent Lake Edward.

Kazinga channel is one the popular attraction in Queen Elizabeth National Park with the largest population Hippos in the world. The Boat cruise begins at the Mweya peninsula, found 20 km west of Kasese-Mbarara main road. all vehicle itinerant between Mbarara and Kasese go through Katunguru.

Boat cruise on Kazinga channel is done in shifts; Morning shift and afternoon shift. The trip cost around $30 per person and take 2 hours. Mweya Safari Lodge gives tourists a choice between its comfortable ten-seater boat, The Sunbird, and its stylish twelve-seater boat, the Kingfisher.

Marabou storks, Saddle-billed storks, Great and little egrets, White-bellied cormorants, Malachite kingfishers and so on. Other birds that can be found at Kazinga Channel include: African fish eagle, Black-winged stilt, Collared palm-thrush, Spur-winged lapwing, and White-fronted bee-eater.  Kazinga Channel is known as a birding paradise and some say you can see up to 73 species of birds in a short boat ride.

Animals popularly seen at Kazinga channel include crocodiles, Hippos, elephants and buffaloes among others. Such animals stay near water to quench their thirsty and relax.
