The governor of the Bank of Uganda Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile has been confirmed dead.

Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile was born in 1949 on the 27th of January. At the age of 72 years, he has been the governor of the bank of Uganda for the last 21 years. He was first appointed bank of Uganda governor in 2001; since then he has been occupying the office of the governor of the bank of Uganda until his death.

He has served under several presidents of Uganda from 1979 to 2022. These include; the current president Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni, Apollo Milton Obote, Godfrey Binaisa among others. He started serving in government after the overthrow of Idd Amin who was the reason for his refuge in Tanzania and later the United Kingdom.

He is among the few Ugandans that have lived in both pre-independent and post-independent Uganda. His contribution to the financial sector of Uganda was recognized by an honorary doctorate from Nkumba University in Uganda.

The Cause of Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile’s Death

Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile has allegedly been battling diabetic complications that saw him rushed to Nairobi just a week after collapsing at his home. Since the 31st of December 2021, the governor has not been in sound health and his health condition was worrying for a few years now. He died at Nairobi Hospital at 5:30 am while receiving his treatment.
