The Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) made an outcry during the weekend over a possible failure to participate in the Afrobasket tournament in Rwanda due to a lack of funds. A number of sports personalities including “Kanyomozi District” came out on Twitter to condemn the government over negligence and making it appear like the team had to beg funding from the government yet they were participating in a patriotic activity for the glory of Uganda.
The minister of Education and Sports; the first lady promised support as early as possible but her statement was received with scorn after a Tweet from the first son who made claims that he had spoken to the first lady and support was underway.
In a video making rounds on social media, Bernard Ogwel the National council of sports general secretary has been seen handing over a turn of UGX 234 million in cash to Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations President Nasser Sserunjogi. With this money, the silverbacks are expected to be gearing up to set off for the Afrobasket tournament in Rwanda.
What caught the eye of money people was not the fact that money was delivered in cash, rather Benard Ogwel the National council of sports general secretary being seen getting this money from a sack!
