UCC Gives Out Joshua FM Frequency After License Scandal
Joshua FM a Katakwi radio station that was operating on a 93.5 frequency cries out for its frequency that was given out to another operator. According to the founder of Joshua FM Dina Grace Akello; they were shut down because they had not yet paid the license fees. She said it was true that there were years where they faulted license fees but after the shutdown, they deliberated with the Uganda Communications Commission to clear the balance.
However, after clearing the 23 million Uganda shillings license balance, they were not able to recover their frequency. According to Engineer Irene Sewankambo the Executive director of UCC; the frequency was issued out after the redemption time had elapsed.
It should be noted, that Joshua FM has been operational for over 10 years until June 2023 when it was shut down by the Uganda communications commission.
