1. Nssf Pension Towers (32 Floors)
The NSSF pension towers are almost complete. That is why we are including them on our list. Anyone can take you there and see the building towering up to 32 floors. They are simply doing the final touches. The building is expected to be open in 2025. Currently, the tallest building in Kampala is the NSSF Pension Towers.
2. Pearl Of Africa Hotel Nakasero (29 Floors)
The hotel closed in 2023 due to ownership scandals related to Aya Investment Group’s failure to pay off its debt of close to 650 billion Uganda shillings. In 2023, the Hotel had been put up for auctioning but in June 2024, the president of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni intervened thus stalling the auctioning process. Though the hotel is not currently in operation, it remains the second-tallest building in Kampala.
3. URA Towers Nakawa (23 floors)
The URA towers in Nakawa are currently the third tallest building in Kampala. The building was officially opened in January 2019. Its construction cost around 140 billion Uganda shillings. (37 million dollars).
4. Workers House (20 floors)
The worker’s house came into the Shadows of crested towers in 2001. It was once tied with crested towers the two tallest buildings in Kampala. The building was completed in 2001. The construction cost around 19 million dollars. Roughly 71 billion Uganda shillings.
5. Crested Towers: Stanbic Bank (20 Floors)
The Crested Towers were once the tallest building in Kampala. The building came on the scene in 1970. It is one of the oldest buildings in Kampala, with up to 20 floors. The building has undergone a renovation costing around 20 million dollars.
6. Mapeera House (19 Floors)
Mapeera House is among the tallest buildings on Kampala Road. The building was opened in 2012 having sunk up close to 40 million dollars in construction. It is one of the most popular buildings in Kampala with many people using it as their true north in case they get lost within Kampala
7. Kingdom Kampala (18 Floors)
Kingdom Kampala is one of the newest structures in Kampala. Its construction was stalled by bureaucracy during the reign of Jeniffer Musisi. The building consumed a whopping 300 million USD in construction. It was opened in 2015.
8. Uganda House (16 Floors)
Uganda House is one of the oldest buildings in Kampala. Its construction was completed in 1980. Located less than 200 meters from NSSF workers house; the Uganda house remains among the tallest buildings in Kampala.
9. Cham Towers (16 Floors)
Cham towers were completed around the same time like the Uganda House. It was in 1979 that this building was officially completed. The building also undergone renovation in the recent past costing around 16 million dollars.
10. Janan Luwum Church House (15 Floors)
The contested church house is also among the tallest buildings in Kampala. Located just a few meters away from Mapeera House, Janan Luwum church house has a total of 15 floors.
