Uganda wildlife Authority has today handed over UGX 3,108,529,741 to the communities around Queen Elizabeth national park area. These include people around Rwenzori mountains national park, Semuliki national park, Kibale National park, and Tooro Semuliki wildlife reserve.
The cheque was handed over by the minister of tourism Rtd. Col. Tom Butime in the presence of 13 district leaders from the Queen Elizabeth national park conservation area. Among the other dignitaries that were present include Executive Director of Uganda wildlife Authority Sam Mwandha, Uganda wildlife Authority board of Trustees chairman Dr. Panta Kasoma among several other dignitaries.
Last month, Uganda wildlife Authority gave back a tune of 3.4 billion Uganda shillings to the communities around Bwindi impenetrable forest national park and Mgahinga gorilla national park. UWA gives back 20% of their get collection to communities around the protected areas to ensure that they feel the value of wildlife conservation.
