TikTok Influencer ‘Pressure Pressure’ Faces Extended Remand Over Alleged Hate Speech Towards Ugandan Officials

In a recent courtroom development, Ibrahim Musana, popularly known as Pressure Pressure on TikTok, has been further remanded to Luzira Prison following accusations of promoting hate speech and spreading malicious information about key Ugandan figures. The accused TikToker appeared in court for a bail hearing, presenting two sureties. However, the state prosecutor requested additional time to verify the validity of their documents, leading to an adjournment until March 15, 2024.

Musana faces eight charges under section 26(a) of the Computer Misuse Act (2021), spanning the period from August 2023 to February 2024. The prosecution alleges that during this time, Musana used his TikTok account to disseminate information within Kampala district that could degrade, demean, and incite hostility towards specific individuals, including the Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, President Yoweri Museveni, Speaker of Parliament Annet Anita Among, and State Minister for ICT Joyce Naboosa Ssebugwawo.

In his bail application, Musana claims his constitutional right to bail, emphasizing his mental illness and ongoing treatment at Butabika Mental Hospital. Additionally, he asserts being haunted by the spirits of Buganda’s deceased Kings, demanding he repair their tombs. Musana cites financial constraints hindering his ability to fulfill these requests and claims to have informed the Buganda Kingdom of his royal lineage and the spiritual demands, without receiving any response.

The charge sheet indicates that several individuals, including Jennifer Nankabuubi (Full Figure), filed complaints against Musana. Nankabuubi has enlisted the services of lawyer Precious Nahabwe to observe the proceedings.

The court’s decision on Musana’s bail application is eagerly awaited, as it will determine whether he will be released pending trial. Meanwhile, the allegations have sparked debates surrounding freedom of speech, mental health, and the responsibility of social media influencers in Uganda. As the case unfolds, it remains to be seen how the legal system will navigate these complex issues and ensure a fair and just outcome for all parties involved.
