Aga Khan Nakawa Specialty Hospital has partially opened to receive patients in need of specialty treatment. The academic wing of the hospital is still under construction and expected to be completed by the start of next year.

The hospital opened at a time when Lubowa Specialized Hospital was merely kicking off its construction. It is important to note that most of the cancer-related complications are often further referred to Aga Khan hospital Nairobi or India.

Aga Khan Nakawa Speciality Hospital is merely part of the Aga Khan Kampala University whose main vision is to reduce the doctor-patient ratio in Uganda. Currently, Uganda has a 1:1000 patients ratio which means that it is very hard to get proper medication in Uganda.
