Charles Musoke Sserunjogi a resident of Kulambiro and a Kampala Central Division Chairman has spoken out on the event during the assassination of the Assistant Inspector General of Police – Andrew Felix Kaweesi on Friday.
The AIGP was murdered by unknown assailants before disappearing on motorcycles as per witnesses.
Talking about the event, Musoke Sserunjogi said he first thought police was pursuing criminals just to be told later it was AIGP – Mr. Felix Kaweesi.
“It was a rain of bullets. In estimation, the bullets were over hundred in number,” Sserunjogi said.
“We never mind however after some minutes, I was informed that our adored cop Kaweesi had been murdered. On reaching= the scene, I saw his body lying lifeless inside his office vehicle”
As per the statement issued by the Gen. Kale Kayihura, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the killers followed the AIGP’s car for around 3 minutes before showering it with bullets.
“They first fired shots in the air and afterward shot at his car through the rear windscreen and tires flattening him,” Kayihura said.
Another observer said he heard the gunshots from around 500meters.
“I was in my garden and could plainly hear the bullets. I additionally heard neighbors’ dogs barking so loud, which implied that there is something wrong was going on,” said George Mukasa.
Sserunjogi portrayed the Mr. Kaweesi as a easy and down to earth person who openly associated with local people.
“We felt safe when he was around. It’s appalling we have lost such a senior citizen.”
Kaweesi was murdered together with his driver Godfrey Mambewo and bodyguard Kenneth Erau.
The IGP said that in spite of being a big blow to the police force, they won’t let down their watch yet keep hunting for the killers.
