William Samoei Arap Ruto, the former deputy president of Kenya and the UDA presidential candidate has been declared the winner of the 2022 Kenya presidential elections.

The presidential position was contested among four people; David Waihiga Mwaure, leader of the Agano Party, former presidential candidate and former prime minister of Kenya Raila Odinga of the Orange Democratic Movement, William Ruto, and professor George Luchiri Wajackoyah; the only independent candidate in the race.

Since the second day after the casting of the votes, Laila Odinga and William Ruto were very close and tight below the 51% mark that many people started to anticipate a re-run. However, at exactly 6:00 pm on the 15th of August 2022; the IEBC declared  William Samoei Arap Ruto the winner of the 2022 presidential elections making him the 5th president of Kenya since independence.

He was able to secure 7,176,141 valid votes. With the seven million plus valid votes, he was able to edge Laila Odinga who secured 6,942,930 valid votes.
