At around 25 minutes past 13 hours, on the 30th of July 2022; Victor Kiplangat made history as the first Ugandan to win the 42km marathon at the commonwealth games 2022. He crossed the finishing line at 2:10:55 relatively 5 minutes above his personal best time ever.
About 4 minutes to the finishing line, he took a wrong turn but due to the long distance between him and Simbu, he was still able to maintain the first position with over a minute gap. The marathon was by Uganda, followed by Tanzania and Kenya in the third place.
