Murchison Falls National Park lies at the northern end of the Albertine Rift Valley, where the sweeping Bunyoro escarpment tumbles into vast, palm-dotted savanna. Murchison Falls Giraffes

Murchison falls National Park is divided by the Victoria Nile, which plunges 45m over the remnant rift valley wall, creating the dramatic Murchison Falls, the centerpiece of the park and the final event in an 80km stretch of rapids. The mighty cascade drains the last of the river’s energy, transforming it into a broad, placid stream that flows quietly across the rift valley floor into Lake Albert. This stretch of river provides one of Uganda’s most remarkable wildlife spectacles. Water loving animals seen by visitors to the riverbanks include elephants, giraffes and buffaloes, hippos, Nile crocodiles and aquatic birds are permanent residents.

Ziwa Rhino sanctuary is located in Nakasongola district along the way to Murchison Falls National Park. The Rhino re-introduction project is a project of Rhino Fund Uganda and Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA). The Sanctuary is conveniently located 176km (100 miles) north of Kampala on the Gulu highway towards Murchison Falls (branch off at Nakitoma trading centre). Ziwa is the only place where you will be able to see rhinos in the wild. Currently, the sanctuary is home to fifteen (15) southern white rhinos. The sanctuary has become increasingly popular with tourists; for rhino trekking, bird watching, nature walks and relaxation.
