Simcard interim order application rejected

High Court in Kampala has expelled an application by candidate Norman Tumuhimbise and Human Rights Trumpet Limited trying to obstruct the deactivation of unverified Simcards today (Thursday).

The government declared that it had extended the due date to May 19.
On Wednesday, Joy Kabagya the civil court assistant registrar rejected the application, saying that it had been surpassed by events.

She observed that since the government extended the due date, court couldn’t give orders as to the application.

“In the wake of scrutinizing through the government letter extending the Simcard enrollment due date which was the main controversial matter in this application, no order can be made by this court,” Kabagya ruled.

She likewise ordered both sides to meet their expenses.

The expulsion of the application was incited by Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) legal advisor Edwin Karugire, who informed court that government had postponed the enlistment due date for a period of one month.
