Rwenzururu King Charged with Murder; Remanded

Wesley Mumbere the Rwenzururu King has been charged with murder of a cop, Kampala Sun News Report.

Under tight security, the King was today transferred from Police’s special operations base at Nalufenya to Jinja Chief Magistrate’s Court where charges of murder were perused by the state.

On the charge sheet, The King is depicted as a cultural leader and occupant of Muyenga Cell, Nyakabingo Ward, Central Division in Kasese District.

Francis Kaggwa the presiding magistrate said, the court lacks jurisdictions over the case.
He then remanded Mumbere, who was captured from his Kasese-based castle on Sunday to Kirinya jail in Jinja.

Prior, Jeje Odong the Internal Affairs Minister said at a press briefing in Kampala that in 2014 over 68 attackers lost their lives in the Rwenzururu crisis.

Furthermore, 23 local people and 10 individuals from the security forces lost their lives.
He also added that Rwenzururu culture guards began attacking police headquarters and police posts as security anticipated demolish militants’ camps in November.

“These attacks were done in a similar way over the area where 16 police officers were murdered and 6 guns stolen,” said Odong.

He additionally revealed that a collection of weapons were recovered from the royal residence, including, 7 Sub-Machine Guns, pistols, ammunition, spears, machetes, 16 petrol bombs and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
