Besides the bustle and hustle of 2020, the continuous lockdowns, sanitizing, and facemasks everywhere. Amidst the many lives lost, the business closed and education interrupted; there has been somewhat something positive about 2020.
In the first week of September 2020, the good news of a baby boom in Bwindi impenetrable forest national park went viral covered by CNN, BBC, Telegraph among several other international news websites. It is still uncertain why the baby boom at such a time; considering the gestation period of the mountain gorillas being similar to that of human beings.
You cannot just attribute the baby boom to the temporary closure of the national park. Though it might have been one of the reasons for the baby boom, there must be other factors at play that must be uncertain through scientific research.
Ruhija Baby Gorilla
There are four gorilla trekking sectors in Bwindi impenetrable forest national park; Rushaga, Buhoma, Nkuringo, and Ruhija. The most popular of these sectors is the Buhoma sector where the first habituated gorilla family in Uganda lived in the early 90s. However, besides its popularity, it has been overshadowed by the Ruhija sector because of the good news in that sector.
On October 11th, 2020, Uganda registered another gorilla birth to the Mukiza group in the Ruhija sector of Bwindi impenetrable forest national park. This raised the number of members in this group to fifteen.
