Drama ensued at Makerere University yesterday during the 69th graduation ceremony as police tried to arrest a former student activist, and he was known for organizing dangerous strikes at University.
Five police officers, who declined to reveal their identities to journalists, dragged away Mr. Simon Wanyera, who graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Education from the tent, but fellow graduates protested. Realizing that the situation was getting out of their control, they dropped their mission and returned Mr. Wanyera to his seat.
It is also alleged that the graduate sang the “tulyambale engule” song that has mixed feelings among the people of Uganda. The government thinks this song is a provocation and also incites violence among the government since it has contents that pick on the bad deeds of the current government.
