National Unity Platform (NUP); the opposition majority political party in Uganda has declined to join Ipod on grounds of lack of mutual respect, and transparency. According to a letter dated 2nd September 2021; the NUP secretary-general, David Rubongoya said they had reached a consensus not to join IPOD.
According to NUP, they do not see the purpose of joining IPOD with political prisoners still castigated without proper trial.
