Makerere University is the largest and oldest institution in Uganda and ranked among the top 10 best Universities in Africa. Most people consider Makerere University to be the “Oxford of Africa”.
The university has opened today after a strike from Non-teaching staff for their pay rise.

The Academic registrar would like to inform Freshers 2016/17 Academic Year about a revised Freshers’ Orientation Programs as follows:
Orientation Day:
Friday 26th August, 2016 (Orientation Day) from 9.00 a.m – 1.00 p.m
Semester One
Saturday 20th August, 2016 to Saturday 171h December, 2016 ( 17 Weeks)

Saturday 2016 August, 2016
Resident Freshers report to their respective Halls of residence or private Hostels by 5.00 p.m. It is the
responsibility of each student to make his/her own travel arrangements to the University or private hostel.
Friday 26th August 2016
All Freshers shall report to the Freedom Square for a meeting with the University officials at 9.00 a.m.
The Freedom square is the open ground in front of the main Administration Building where official functions of the University are normally performed.
Colleges/Schools will organize their orientation programs in the afternoon of 26th August, 2016.
Change of Program/Subjects
Each student who may wish to change his/her program/subject is required to pay an application fee of Shs.6,000/= plus the bank charges to Post Bank, Stanbic Bank, Crane Bank, DFCU Bank, and Centenary Bank.
The change of program /subjects will be done online (for A’Level applicants) from Monday 22nd August, 2016 to Friday 26th August , 2016 at Level 3, Senate Building. Degree/Diploma Holders who may wish to change programs/subjects will pick forms from Room No. 315, Level3, Senate Building. It is advisable that only those students who meet the cut-off points for the desired programs may apply.
Registration will take place at the respective Colleges/Schools from Monday 22nd August, 2016 to Friday 9th September, 2016.
