Lake Mburo National Park (Home Of Zebras)
The park is well-known for hosting a variety of Zebras. The acacia woodland harbors a number of wildlife species and it is the best place in the country to see the gigantic eland antelope, as well as topi, impala, and several acacia-associated bird species. Lake Mburo is the smallest park in Uganda and easily reached from Kampala towards the west. It is found in the Mbarara district –the land of milk as cattle rearing is the chief economic activity in the region.
Lake Mburo National park features most Uganda safaris and it consists of five lakes and Lake Mburo is the largest of all with 260 sq. This justifies the reason why the park hosts a variety of water-loving birds and animals like hippos, crocodiles among others.
Some of the major activities liked by tourists include game drives, boat cruises, sport fishing, bird watching, horse riding, guided community tours among others. Lake Mburo can be visited any time of the year since the roads to the park are clear and good.
The park is a birds’ paradise as it hosts over 350 bird species like White-winged Warbler Crested Francolin, Emerald-spotted Wood Dove, Brown Parrot, Barefaced Go-away bird, Rednecked Spur, common Quails, Black-billed Barbet, Greenwood Hoopoe, Blue-napped Mousebird, Lilac-breasted Roller, African-grey Hornbill, Nubian Woodpecker, Trilling Cisticola a drive towards Rwonyo camp may reveal; Coqui Francolin, Red-necked spurfowl, Black-Bellied Bustard, Temminck’s Courser, African-wattled Plover Rufous napped and Flappet larks, Rufuos chested Swallow, Yellow-throated Longclaw, and Southern Red Bishop. Being a savannah Game Park, Lake Mburo National Park contains no elephants to tame the vegetation. In the western part of the park, the savanna is interspersed with rocky ridges and forested gorges while patches of papyrus swamp and narrow bands of lush riparian woodland line many lakes.
This is one of the most visited Ugandan National Parks due to the fact that, it contains Shoebill storks which are found nowhere else in the country.
Lake Mburo accommodation ranges from budget to Luxury and they include Rwonyo tent camp, Mihingo Lodge, Mantana Luxury Tented Camp, Arcadia Cottages, and so on.
