UPDF Forces Deal Blow to Splinter Groups in Night Operation

Northeast Erengeti Valley, Ituri Province, DRC

The ADF rebels in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo are now a fragmented force on the run. After facing significant losses and being driven out of all their strongholds in the region, remnants of the group have taken to moving under the cover of night, desperately searching for food and medicine with their families in tow.

This situation took a turn for the worse for the rebels on 27th July 2023, 3:00 am in the morning, when UPDF (Uganda People’s Defense Force) troops, under the astute command of Col. Kayanja Jackson, executed a meticulously planned night operation. The operation resulted in the killing of a high-ranking ADF commander and the surrender of 17 of his associates. This marked a significant setback for the splintered ADF factions, who are already grappling with diminishing resources and a loss of territorial control.

In a statement released earlier today, the UPDF announced not only the successful neutralization of key ADF members but also the capture of a substantial cache of weapons from the rebel fighters. Such victories demonstrate the UPDF’s commitment to ensuring peace and stability in the region.

It is worth noting that the ADF, originally based in Uganda, has been responsible for various acts of violence, displacing and traumatizing countless civilians in the Eastern DRC over the years. In the recent past, they attacked and killed a number of students in Kasese. With their bases now eradicated and their forces severely weakened, hopes are high for a more secure future for the residents of Ituri and the surrounding regions.

The joint forces continue to patrol the area, working tirelessly to bring lasting peace to the communities that have suffered for too long at the hands of the ADF.
